Born to be Bound

Born to be Bound ~ Alpha’s Claim #1

Synopsis:

Surrender is not survival.

Claire is desperate. Her once thriving city lies in ruins. The strongest of the three human dynamics, Alphas, have grown feral. Common Betas circle like vultures. The lowest in the hierarchy, rare and weak Omegas like Claire, are being destroyed. Sheltering amidst a dwindling enclave of frightened Omega women, Claire cannot provide enough to feed them all; her friends are starving.

All due to one escaped convict’s violent rise to power.

Shepherd is every bit as ruthless as his reputation suggests. Despite taking every possible precaution, Claire is captured and her worst nightmare realized. Shepherd, discovering a rare Omega in his midst, claims her like a prize, forcing a pair-bond that ties her to him forever.

She fights her instincts and his will, because no matter how manipulative the bond might be, she despises what he’s done to her people. If she cannot find a way to help her friends, if she cannot escape, everyone she loves will die.

Publisher’s Note: The first book in Addison Cain’s exciting, raw, and suspense-filled Omegaverse series is a dark tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. Though situations may be interpreted as romantic, this is a story about the effect of extreme circumstances on the human psyche and the consequences of obsession—not a standard romance. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.

My Review:

This is my first book by Addison Cain, and to be honest I’ve had it on my Kindle for ages, and never quite got round to reading it. But I’ve had a bit of time and decided to give it a go.

I’m not much of a Dystopian fan, I just haven’t read many of these types of books, so maybe I was put off a bit by this at first. So glad I persisted though!! This is more of a blend of dystopia / horror / sci fi / captive/captor & dark erotic, all set in a very descriptive apocalyptic world type setting – quite unlike anything I have read before, but was very intriguing and within a couple of chapters I was hooked!!

Claire’s world has been overthrown by the ultimate of evils, an Alpha called Shepherd, a ‘product’ of their worlds criminal population in the ‘Undercroft’. His rule, along with his Alphas Betas and Followers, is brutal and violent, destroying anything in his path.

Claire is a rare Omega, a much smaller and weaker species. Very few are left alive and these are dying of hunger, so Claire turns to the only person she believes can help, Shepherd himself. Things don’t turn out as planned for Claire, she is captured and held by Shepherd, who ultimately pair-bonds with her against her will, claiming her as his.

Be warned, this is a dark erotic read, full of violence, rape and a host of other trigger types. This is not for the faint hearted, this is not a nice easy read, this is the real deal!!

I loved both Claire and Shepherd in this, they are poles apart in their thinking, and how they were raised and lived. This has shaped their lives to how they are now. Shepherd is the ultimate Alpha badass antihero ever!! But good God I loved him as much as I hated him!! Claire is strong in her beliefs and views, fighting her corner for the greater good, and the evil that is Shepherd.

Full of plot twists and turns, including a truly savage turn of event I had not seen coming, which I must say definitely threw me for a loop.

This made me think about what I would do in that situation, and the more you find out, the more sympathy you have for both Claire and Shepherd. With a massive cliff hanger that was just, like, erm no way, I am so glad all the books have been released and I can read them all in one go, otherwise I might have been tempted not to even look at book 2 in this series.

Savage, violent, brutal, dark and disturbing – all in all a hell of a read, straight on to book 2 for me now, I just can’t put it off!!! What a debut read, certainly one I won’t be forgetting for a long time!!

Born to be Broken

Born to be Broken ~ Alpha’s Claim #2

Synopsis:

Claire has a score to settle.

Unwilling mate to the brute who viciously conquered her city, she has once again escaped from her Alpha. Hardened by betrayal, cold as the ice outside the Dome, Claire becomes the mission. The Omegas must be freed, no matter the cost.

The price on her head will not deter her; after all, mated and subjugated her life no longer retains value. She can’t eat, she can’t sleep, and she’s running out of time before the inevitable end.

For once, Shepherd finds himself facing an adversary he cannot simply crush, the situation far out of his depth. Desperate to draw his mate back, racked and restless, he is forced to acknowledge that his pregnant Omega is willing to sacrifice her life for her false notion of a greater good.

He holds the key to her compliance and his dying mate’s survival—all he must do is give her exactly what she wants.

Born to be Broken is the second book in Addison Cain’s bestselling Alpha’s Claim trilogy, an unabashedly dark tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. If you enjoy gritty fiction and suspense that sticks long after you’ve finished reading, this series is not to be missed.

My Review:

Thank goodness that by the time I had read book 1, book 2 was already out and I could just dive straight in – after the cliffy at the end book 1 I’m not sure I would’ve survived the wait to see what happened next in this one!!

Claire is free of Shepherd’s clutches and fighting her best for her beliefs. But little by little she is seeing that maybe her beliefs aren’t quite as black/white as she first thought.

The plot thickens with Svana and Corday and the whole resistance thing. We learn a lot more about Shepherd and his upbringing. Both Shepherd and Claire’s characters have grown an awful lot in this book. Shepherd is still the growling Alpha asshole antihero, but Claire is his light, and the push and pull between these two is just wonderful. Claire is going through a lot, and has a lot to learn, going down the martyr road in attempt to fight for her beliefs??

It is still a very dark and harsh read, not everyone will like this, with lots of triggers in here. Personally I can’t wait to read the next one, to see how this will pan out, will they get a HEA ending with everything that’s going on??

Straight on to book 3 for me now, thank goodness its out!!!

Reborn

Reborn ~ Alpha’s Claim #3

Synopsis:

There is a greater threat than the virus.

Locked safely away in Shepherd’s nest, Claire is unaware of what stirs above ground. Her time is occupied fighting a war of another kind. Due to her mate’s relentless exploitation of their pair-bond, the nature of their link has grown consuming to the point that Claire has difficulty differentiating where her feelings begin and his end.

Under its influence, she’s forced to sense the man behind the monster. She can feel the truth of his terrible history. Claire can see the source of madness that drives Shepherd to do such terrible things: Svana.

His mate is desperate to open his eyes, but no matter Claire’s progress, Svana is not yet done with him.

Thólos is coming apart at the seams, and Shepherd’s men can do nothing to stop it. Real war is coming, and unless the Alpha tyrant is willing to pay the ultimate price, everything he has sacrificed will have been for nothing.

Reborn, the final installment in Addison Cain’s bestselling Alpha’s Claim trilogy, is a dark Omegaverse tale with explicit sexual themes, disturbing situations, and complete power exchange. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.

My Review:

Ok, last book in the series, and OMG what have you done Addison???

That was one hell of an emotional ride!!!

I don’t want to give spoilers, but you need to know this does not have a traditional HEA. Personally I’m fine with it, the author did a great job in writing the ending as she wanted it, not as the readers expected it to be. As much as I would have liked everything to turn out OK, just as in real life, things just don’t always go to plan.

Be prepared for the emotional ride, it was quite tough.

Still this was a great series for me, I do enjoy a dark read, something gritty and real, that will leave you ‘feeling’ not just ‘yeah that was ok’. You definitely get that from this series.

There is a spin off due out very shortly (Summer ’17), so can’t wait to see what that entails.
