Political propaganda would have us believe vampires are our friends. Fanged teddy bears misunderstood thanks to archaic lore. Activists picket for them to be welcomed into our society.
They claim vamps don’t kill.
They preach we are safe.
They … are dead wrong.
One year ago a hive slaughtered my family and left me for dead. Found by a team of scientists with their own agenda, I was forged into an unstoppable weapon.
I possess their strength, with none of their weaknesses.
I can move among them free from their crippling hunger.
I am their greatest threat.
Armed with this arsenal, vengeance will feed my desire to penetrate the seedy underbelly of their fetishized lifestyle and expose them for the monsters they truly are.
This is my first book by Stacey Rourke, the blurb really drew me in, I love anything PNR so a hybrid vampire being used against themselves sounded really intriguing and quite unique, which the story was, it turned out to be a really good read!!
Vincenza was just a normal girl growing up in a world with vampires, who were lobbying for equal rights like the humans, who in turn were making them out to be monsters. Vinx had a vampire boyfriend who she was bringing home to meet the parents, that’s when everything backfires and her life as she knows it ends and becomes something else entirely!!
Like I said its a good story, full of plot twists and turns, political intrigue, mystery, drama, violence, humour and a whodunit!! It did take me a little while to get into it with the way it goes forwards and backwards on a timeline, but once I was there I was well and truly into the story.
I loved the characters and the unusual plot line, different from other vampire stories, yet loved the inclusion of Vlad and Dorian Gray into the mix, can’t wait to see how these get included in later books!! It was a great thing to watch Vinx’s character as she grew throughout the book and become something so much more that I anticipated. Her relationship with her best friend Micah was awesome, and it was good to watch how those dynamics changed later in the story line.
A definite cliffhanger at the end, so I can’t wait to read the next book. This is definitely worth the read and very different to a typical PNR read, which was good.
