About JUST PRETEND:
When yet another publisher rejects Hannah’s most recent book due to poor love scenes, she concocts a fail-proof plan to increase her creativity… spine-tingling, no strings attached sex. How can she write about love and lust if she’s never really felt it? As the only man in her life she truly trusts, Logan is the perfect one to help her find this new side of herself—and stand in as her pretend boyfriend at an upcoming reunion.
For Logan, a Broadway actor by trade and passion, Hannah’s proposal is both outrageous and intriguing—especially since he’s fought for nineteen years of friendship to avoid thinking of her in a physical way. Against all reason, Logan takes the bait and agrees… then ups the ante by turning their pretend relationship into a pretend engagement in front of her entire family.
Now, they just have to navigate their new situation while playing house… and somehow remember this is all Just Pretend…

With anticipation on her lips, she yanks off the tie and throws it at me in frustration. She’s pissed that I made her face the truck, rather than making her face toward the surprise.
“Smooth move, jackass,” Hannah chides as she turns around.
Her gasp is music to my ears. Her face beams with happiness as she gawks at the hot air balloon resting in the giant open field. I gesture stepping over her jaw on the floor as I slide my way in front of her.
I stretch my arms out. “Well, what do you think?”
Tears well up in her eyes as she jumps into me, throwing her arms around my neck. She pecks a chaste kiss onto my cheek. “Is this really happening? You’re taking me on a hot air balloon ride?”
I smile against her shoulder as I squeeze her tighter. “You bet your perky ass I am.”
Jeffrey walks over to our location.
“Hannah, this is Jeffrey. Otherwise known as the Hot Air Balloon Wizard.”
Jeffrey takes off his hat and bows his head to Hannah. “Good evening, Miss. Are you ready to get up in the air?”
Hannah nods as Jeffrey secures his hat back upon his head. We let Jeffrey lead the way across the field to the basket. Hannah clutches my arm as we strut across the field. I can’t tell if she is nervous, excited, or both, so I choose to believe the latter.
Jeffrey steps into the basket first, followed by Hannah, then me. After Jeffrey informs us of all the necessary safety procedures, he pulls the string, causing fire to roar from the burner. Next thing I know, we are ascending higher into the clear blue sky.
Hannah, still clutching onto my arm, rests her head on my shoulder, her blonde hair cascading down my back. “You’re really something. Ya know that?”
She peaks my interest, so I decide to play along. “A good kinda something, or the bad kind?”
“Hmmm. That depends on the time of day.” We both laugh at her failed attempt at a sexual innuendo. “In all seriousness, though, you amaze me. How on Earth can you remember something I told you the first day we met?”
I waft my hand through my hair as I stare out into the glassy sky. “I remember everything you tell me because it’s important to you.”
About J.P. Nicolas:
J.P. Nicholas has the great misfortune to be A Male Romance Writer. Turns out, men are also hopeless romantics, given half the chance, and Nicholas’ fascination with love began long before he could write. His parents—high school sweethearts who are still mad for each other—left him enamored with the idea of true love, and its ability to transform and redeem even the most jaded soul. Nicholas lives to capture this magic, lust, and passion on the page; his characters known for their sizzling chemistry and chest-squeezing plot lines.
When J.P. Nicholas isn’t tapping away at his laptop, he can be found in his home state of Florida, binge-watching This Is Us with his girlfriend, or devouring Italian food with his family. His latest novel, Just Pretend, is a friends-to-lovers drama and the first in his new Sandy Heights series, to be released in June.
