It’s a role she didn’t want…
One deadly week has passed since seventeen year old Allison Delaney realized she must save Earth from the parasitic race of Ma’tiok. But the task is even more complicated than Allison feared, and she’s being set up to fail. Blamed for a fatal blow to the Alliance fleet that killed dozens of soldiers, Allison must face judgment for their deaths. The High Priestess Kiobaan is Allison’s only hope. Kiobaan sees the warrior spirit in Allison, along with her potential both politically and physically and agrees to train her.
And a game she can’t afford to lose.
Meanwhile, though Allison is the human host of Eenoki, protector of life, she’s not yet ready to harness their combined energy. Their bond is unpredictable at best—volatile at worst. Time is running out for Eenoki and Allison to trust each other—all or nothing—or she’ll never gain the power she needs to defeat the Ma’tiok and save Earth. When Allison is marked for death by an unknown enemy, the High Priestess Kiobaan must step-up and fight. But in return Kiobaan extracts a pledge from Allison, one that will compromise her new status and make her a target.
My ARC Review:
Book 2 Rival continues straight after book 1 Fate of the Stars, which must be read first in order to understand what has gone on previously, although at the start of this book we are given a memorial service for those that have died in the fighting which gives us a quick recap on what’s gone on previously, which always helps!
There’s a lot of action and a lot of tension in this one as Allison continues with her mission to help save the Earth and its people. Allison continues to grow in her character, being only 17 yrs old, is learning to develop new skills as well as learning to communicate more with symbiotic spirit of Eenoki. She has a difficult task on her hand as the Earth’s people don’t accept Allison as their Ambassador and don’t want the aliens on their planet. Her only hope is swear allegiance to the High Priestess and learn from her.
Allison has to learn to have faith in herself and her new abilities and convince both the Aliens who are helping her and her own people that she has the ability to do this, which is easier said than done. There are a lot of battles to be fought and she must be the one doing the fighting!
Its a good and enjoyable storyline, entertaining and dramatic at times, with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, so hopefully another book will be in the making!! These are definitely worth the read!
