Synopsis:
Life being Layton Parks isn’t easy. Everything she touches seems to just fall apart at her fingertips – the air conditioning, the coffee maker, her ability to say no. My Book Review:
This was my first book by A.J. Love, the blurb really intrigued me and I’m so glad I read this, the story was captivating from the first few pages, the writing was wonderfully done, drawing you into Layton and Kane’s world and I loved the characters!
Layton left home early in her life, not fitting in with her parents ideals, they turned her out. Layton works really hard to afford her tiny little apartment and paying the bills, having to keep 2 jobs going at once, one in the grocery store and one as a stripper. But she’s doing ok, not one to say no to anyone though, always doing as she is asked to do.
A new neighbour moves in across from her apartment, he’s huge, quiet, brooding, angry looking and sets Layton’s body quivering with needs when she knows she should really be running away, but is unable to resist the innate pull towards him. Kane is a shattered soul, barely holding himself together, he uses his arrogance and anger as masks to keep people at bay. He can’t seem to stop thinking about the girl across the way from him, and has an over protective urge to look after her, though he can’t figure out why and can’t let her get involved with him, thinking he would only drag her down into his darkness.
I really loved these characters and the storyline with its plots and twists that kept you on the edge of your seat. Layton’s character grew more and more as she got to know Kane, and he in turn smiled and talked more than he has ever done, I loved his character and his protectivness and caring nature even though he wanted to be seen as cocky and arrogant. I loved the circle of friends they made and how the MC crew always had their back and made a great set of friends.
There is definitely a dark undertone to this story with a scene that may well have triggers for some people so be warned.
A great read all in all, I really enjoyed it and would definitely look to read more from this author. Highly recommended reading.
