Blurb:

America’s population is slowly dying due to an epidemic, and Alexander, an ancient, immortal shaman, has medicine that can heal people. It has one small side effect—Alexander’s able to control the minds of anyone taking the drug, nicknamed “dust.”

Alexander plans to take over the country once dust is released to the general public, crushing anyone who stands in the way. He needs just a little bit more of a certain magical ingredient to make the medication work properly: fairy wings.

An intelligent, stunning fairy, Sabrina was also America’s sweetheart—until a video of a crime she was involved in surfaces, nearly destroying her. A year later, she’s finally ready to step back into the spotlight. Together with her bodyguard, Mira, a water spirit in human form, Sabrina’s prepared to start over.

Things are starting to look up until she meets Alexander in a club and goes from social outcast to tortured captive in the blink of an eye. Will she be able to escape the evil shaman and his mind-controlled slaves in time to save herself and everyone she cares about?

My Review:

This was my first book by Kevin – it was a great read, very detailed with lots of fae and magical creatures galore, all set in a modern day setting!

You are thrown right into the mix from the very start of the book, it doesn’t bring you in gently you’re literally thrown into the story, which took me a little time to get used to with this one, but once I caught up I was really captivated with the story line and the drama as it was unfolding.

Sabrina is a fairy, very much a socialite, partying, designer clothes, always in the spotlight. Her boyfriend Cade, a vampire, ends up videoing them having just committed a crime and then having sex. This gets found at the scene and released onto social media which ends up destroying her and her reputation. It takes her a year to recover from this, during which time Cade has been called to a deep sleep along with the rest of the vampire nation and is gone from her life. We don’t learn too much more about Cade apart from how he ended up a vampire in the Civil War, hoping that future books will feature more of him.

Sabrina and Mira her bodyguard / friend who is a water spirit, end up going back out into the spotlight, its there she meets Alexander who sets about trying to capture Sabrina for her wings, which look like a tattoo on her back, but are real which some stunning properties, these are what Alexander needs for his new drug and is determined to get her by any means possible.

Moselle is one of Sabrina’s closest friends, she also happens to be an Egyptian Mummy. Of course the modern world knows nothing about these supernatural beings that walk the earth with them. Mosselle’s story is truly fascinating and I loved her character, her life and its settings – there’s not many PNR books featuring a Mummy, so this was a real treat! Moselle along with her very human boyfriend Jackson, who’s a hockey player, come to the aid of Moselle in her fight with Alexander. Poor Jackson is a bit clueless, unaware at first that the people he is dealing with are anything but human, but ends up taking it all in his stride!

Sabrina then also needs Cade’s help as well, and ends up rousing him from his sleep to help her out, but he is not overly pleased to be up! Still he helps her and is happy to go back to a relationship with Sabrina, not thinking he would be seeing her again quite so soon!

There’s a lot of action and drama and the story is well paced keeping you entertained and involved.I enjoyed the stories about the different characters and how they came to be to where they were now in modern day world.

A very different PNR read in a modern setting, with some hot sexy scenes mixed in with the drama, all in all I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely read the next book in this series. Highly recommended reading.
