One word easily summed up my entire life: ordinary.

I lived with my grandmother in a rural town in Montana. As I worked beside her in our small store, she taught me everything I needed to know.

Except how to find her when she disappeared into thin air.

Yesterday, going off to college was my greatest adventure. But the truth about my childhood was hidden from me my entire life, cloaked by a powerful spell.

I thought all the tales she told me were just bedtime stories…children’s fantasies.

Until I stumbled into the Covis Realm.
Until I learned my mother was killed because she was a mage.
Until I was told my father died defending her.
Until I realized I’m the rightful heir to the throne.

Mages were hunted and killed because of their powers. They said a mage could never be the queen.

My response? Watch me.

My ARC Review:

This is a new author for me, but the blurb on this new series sound intriguing if a little on the YA side (which is not my thing), so thought I would give it a try and see how we got on.

The story has a slow start that was also a bit confusing until you got a few chapters in and the story started to sink in, but I’m glad I kept at it as the world turned out to be a very interesting one, full of a variety of magical creatures and a story line packed full of romance, mystery, intrigue, betrayal, friendship and of course magic!

Sara lives a normal small town life, raised by her Grandma, worrying about what to do with her life after high school, until her Grandma disappears and she falls into a new and mysterious world, that is quite different from the one that she is used to, where she appears to have magical abilities. Her first meeting with Saban after she flees the elves off their land, and they have this instant connection, she has unwittingly found her soul mate already!

Sara is a strong and independent character in this, thrust into a world she knows nothing about with new powers, she just gets on with it, taking it all in her stride. Saban on the other hand was always a bit dodgy for me, I didn’t trust him from the start, but did start to thaw a little about him, I should have trusted my initial gut reaction!!

I loved the world created here, so many magical creatures and different types, with very vivid descriptions. The elves and the mer-people were very intriguing and can’t wait to see how they are involved more in this story line. There are lots of unanswered questions here just waiting for more books in this series, which I am definitely looking forward to. A good start to a new series.
