Dexter Daniels prefers gems over women. Emeralds over girlfriends. Diamonds over marriage.
He might be the most successful jeweler of his generation, a loyal friend and some say the most handsome man in London, but his past means he doesn’t deal in love.
When Hollie Lumen enters the ballroom where exquisite royal jewels are on display, she brings Dexter’s world to a screeching halt. Despite her hand-me-down dress and borrowed shoes, Hollie is even more stunning than the jewelry. Feisty, funny and ferociously independent, she’s all Dexter can see.
Hollie Lumen can’t catch a break. She thought an internship in London was her chance to escape her responsibilities back in Oregon and for her dreams to come true. When she’s fired only a few weeks after touching down, she’s ready to give up and go home. Hollie never asks for help. She knows the only person she can rely on is herself.
So what’s she going to do about the tall, dark, handsome stranger who keeps rescuing her?
She’s going to rescue him right back.
Mr. Knightsbridge is a stand-alone romance.
My ARC Review:
This was a great standalone read, very entertaining, heartfelt and romantic. The story line is captivating from the outset and the chemistry between the main characters was very intense. I love the world of gems and so for me this was a thrilling read as I’ve yet to read a book about a jeweller!
Dexter Daniels was born into the jewellery world, his parents running a successful shop in London, and since their death he has spent his life trying to live up to their name after his elder brother sold their shop to a competitor, Sparkle, and they have never spoken since. There is a competition to design wedding jewellery for a Finnish Princess which he is determined to win.
Hollie has just arrived in London interning for Sparkle as a designer, where she meets Dexter at a party for this competition. They couldn’t come from more opposite worlds. He is rich, successful, suave and sophisticated. She was raised in a trailer park in Oregon, has no worldly goods, but is determined to make a go of her dream career.
Dexter was hurt in a previous relationship and only gets so far with a girl before he shuts the relationship down. But he can’t get Hollie’s emerald eyes out of his head! But she’s not an easy catch and he has to pursue her, which is not what he is used to. Hollie has had a bad start in life, having to fend for her parents who do not work and look after her younger sister. She is used to having to do everything herself and is not used to having things done for her. Dexter’s money and wealth do nothing for her, and he loves that about her.
Their relationship blossoms, along with the chemistry and the steam. Dexter can’t get enough of her and finds himself buying her things, which she is not sure about. But both are scared of relationships, Hollie knows her time in London is limited so is trying not to fall for him.
I loved their connection as it goes beyond money and status, they just wanted each other, and it was beautiful to watch. There is witty banter and laugh out loud moments along with anger, loss and heartbreak. Captivating reading from start to finish, highly recommended.
About the Author:
USA Today bestselling author, Louise Bay writes sexy, contemporary romance novels – the kind she likes to read. Her books include the novels Faithful (not currently on sale as undergoing maintenance!), Hopeful, The Empire State Series, The Royals Series, The Nights Series (both series of standalone books each following different characters) and the standalone Gentleman series.
Ruined by romantic mini-series of the eighties, Louise loves all things romantic. There’s not enough of it in real life so she disappears into the fictional worlds in books and films.
Louise loves the rain, The West Wing, London, days when she doesn’t have to wear make-up, being on her own, being with friends, elephants and champagne.
