William made me dinner when he returned later that evening, signaling the first “break period” from my immersive week in submission. From six until nine, each evening, we wouldn’t be Sir and little swan. We wouldn’t even be boss and employee.
We would just be William and April.
This had been something he’d insisted upon during our discussions, though I hadn’t originally understood the need.
“You embarrassed me,” I asserted, unafraid and unfiltered, once he plated our evening meal at the kitchen bar. He’d prepared steak au poivre with vegetables, moving with a surprising culinary fluency that subdued my annoyance far more than I wanted to admit.
It was infuriating, the fact that he still managed to be so attractive in his wickedness.
“Indeed I did. As well as the boy,” he responded, pouring me a glass of wine.
His unapologetic honesty was disorienting.
“Because I love it when you squirm,” he answered with a smirk.
I carefully cut into my portion of beef, slicing it into palatable, dice-sized cubes.
“But that guy…he’s just a kid. Don’t you think involving him was unnecessary, and…I don’t know, cruel?”
His casual nonchalance confirmed he was entirely unbothered by it, and nothing I said would convince him otherwise.
“He’s nineteen. Much closer to your age than you are to mine. And would you really call that cruel? I guarantee you’ll be starring in his wet dreams for months.”
I shuddered. “Doesn’t that bother you?”
He shrugged, then glanced at my plate with a faint nod.
The Dominant may have been temporarily restrained, but William still expected me to eat.
With a sigh, I took a tentative bite, and I couldn’t hold back my immediate moan in delight.
William was an excellent cook.
“On the contrary…I find the idea quite arousing, other men desiring you. Dreaming of having you, while knowing they’ll never have the chance to taste what’s mine.”
I raised my eyebrow on a playful impulse.
If he could tease, then perhaps so could I, since I was protected by our contracted reprieve.
“Never?” I asked with an exaggerated, coquettish bat of my eyelashes. He returned my smile, but his gaze was only continuing to darken.
“Not if I have anything to do with it, sweetheart. I may allow men to look, but they most certainly cannot touch you.”
I took a few bites of creamy and comforting gratin dauphinoise as I considered his words, and it became much clearer just what William gained from such games.
It was yet another extension of his control, another form of power he enjoyed.
His enjoyment of humiliation was not limited to that of whatever submissive he was currently training.
The sadist liked to humiliate…everyone.
“Just so I can be prepared, are you planning on doing anything like that again anytime soon?” I asked.
His eyebrows rose. “Does it make you uncomfortable?”
I nodded. “Very.”
“But not enough for you to use your safeword,” William clarified. I nodded again, for truly, it wasn’t as bothersome as some of the other activities we’d shared.
Though he’d certainly come very close to pushing my outermost limits.
“Then it shall remain in our repertoire. However, I will only do so sparingly. Is that agreeable?” William asked.
It was actually comical, the fact that our dinner conversation was centered on the next time he would flaunt my body to another man, and before I could help it, I was shaking with laughter.
William kept an amused, curious gaze on me as I struggled to rein in my giggles, and when I finally began to settle with a deep sip of wine, I was struck with another level of clarity.
As uncomfortable as that game had been, as embarrassed as it had made me feel, not once had I thought about my illness, or how my body looked because of it. I’d completely forgotten about my visible bones, the translucency of my skin, my breaking hair, and every other physical manifestation of my sickness.
For one very awkward afternoon, and for the first time, I’d thought of myself as a woman, only.
“Break time is almost halfway over. And I would like to show you something before we play again. Eat a little bit more for me…please?” William asked.
I cleared my plate in minutes.
