RT Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Vampire Romance Nominee

In this dazzling, sensual novel, Dianne Duvall beckons readers into a world of vampires, immortals, and humans with extraordinary gifts. . .where passion can last forever, if you’re willing to pay the price. . .

Once, Sarah Bingham’s biggest challenge was making her students pay attention in class. Now, after rescuing a wounded stranger, she’s landed in the middle of a battle between corrupt vampires and powerful immortals who also need blood to survive. Roland Warbrook is the most compelling man Sarah has ever laid hands on. But his desire for her is mingled with a hunger he can barely control. . .

In his nine centuries of immortal existence, no woman has tempted Roland as much as Sarah. But asking her to love him is impossible–when it means forfeiting the world she’s always known, and the life he would do anything to protect. . .

“These dark, kick-ass guardians can protect me any day!” –Alexandra Ivy

My Book Review:

Wow, how have I missed this series, I am addicted after book 1 with so many left to read, this is going to be a binge read of epic proportions!! Looking at some of the reviews I just don’t understand why it has got some bad write ups, but each to their own, for me it’s a five star read and I can’t wait to devour more!!!

In this world we have the good guys, the Immortal Guardians, and the bad guys are the Vampires. The Immortal Guardians are there to protect mankind from the vampires, who are afflicted with the virus that turns them into a vampire by being bitten by one. Vampires don’t live very long before the virus in them drives them into madness and instead of just drinking blood from the humans they torture and torment them! The immortal guardians on the other hand live indefinitely, and end up being what they are due to being a ‘gifted one’ when they were human, having some special something that made them different.

Roland is one of the oldest immortal guardians being over 900 years old. He’s a bit of a recluse, or antisocial as the others call him, he has a hard time trusting people with things that have happened in his long life. Sarah is a teacher that lives out in the sticks and happens to end up saving Roland after he has been staked by a bunch of vampires, who so far only ever work alone and not together in packs like they did to get Roland.

Of course there is a lot of world building in this one being the first in the series as we learn about lots of other characters as well. There is another side story running alongside Roland and Sarah’s in this one, and that is about a mysterious woman that Seth rescues. Seth is the leader of the Immortal Guardians having powers way beyond any of the others and is able to walk in daylight without any ill effects….. sunlights kills vamps and guardians alike.

Roland and Sarah’s relationship was great to watch, having gone from attracted to him, to being terrified, to understanding more about him, and then to accepting him for what he was and even loving him. I was hooked from the start, it’s an immersive story that I am so looking forward to following and seeing just where the author takes it. There are so many more characters and story lines still yet to explore!! Each are unique and individual in their ways and talents, I loved them all!! On to book 2 for me.
