A brotherhood of murderers whose nature compels them to kill. But guided by their leader, Gabriel, the Fallen have learned to use their urges to rid the world of those it is better off without.
Control. Diel has spent his entire life under it. His childhood years were spent in the sadistic captivity of the Brethren. Now the Fallen are free, but the monster that lives inside Diel is not—can not be. The darkness within is curbed by an electric collar, the only thing that stops Diel from killing everyone in his path.
Diel’s monster yearns for freedom—the freedom to tear apart Brethren priests, as many as possible, one after the other in a frenzied, liberating spree. When Diel is granted a taste of that freedom, he expects bloodlust, violence, death.
He didn’t expect to find her.
The Fallen are not the only ones chasing the destruction of the Brethren. They were not the only ones to suffer at the priests’ hands. This Diel discovers when he stumbles upon Noa, second in command of the Coven, a group of women who are intent on bringing the Brethren down.
From the second they collide, Noa seems to understand Diel in a way that no one ever has before. She is unafraid of his rage, the bloodthirsty monster that dwells within him.
Because there is a darkness inside Noa too, and it recognises the one in Diel as if it is the missing half of her soul. For years she has tried to suppress it, but as she is inescapably drawn to the fury-filled man in the collar, she starts to wonder if she can keep up the fight.
She starts to wonder if she even should…
Dark contemporary romance. Contains sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language, and topics some may find triggering. Recommended for age 18 years and up.
My ARC Review:
Book 2 in this Deadly Virtues series by Tillie, this one was a long time coming, but boy was it worth it, what a stunning, captivating and intense read!!! Once I started this I couldn’t stop, completely unputdownable…. I loved the previous two books, the world she has created, twisted, sick, evil vs good, characters that seem broken beyond repair, yet are redeemable by their one person…. this is Jegudiel and Noa’s story.
The Fallen are still determined to bring down The Brethren and wholly destroy them for what they have suffered. After following some leads they encounter another group of survivors who escaped The Brethren’s clutches, woman branded as witches and heretics, burned and branded just like The Fallen. The Coven as they are called, are determined to rescue the children being held by The Brethren. They decide to band together, to learn to work as a team in order to reach their goal of saving the children and destroying the priests.
Diel has needed a electric collar around his neck to keep his monster, his darkness, at bay since he was a child. He is a killer through and through, girls never entered into his head, until Noa, the pink-haired witch that seemed to show no fear of him, who taunted his pretty monster to come out and play, who he now cannot keep his eyes off.
Noa is fearless, stealthy, and a killer herself. She has her own brand of darkness within her, one that recognises the monster in Diel, who has an instant connection with him, who wants nothing more than to save him.
This is explosive, raw and utterly compelling reading. Diel’s character is lethal, his restraint at his limit trying to keep his monster contained. I loved his unique characteristics that show just how much of a fight he is putting up, his tics, his emotions, and just what an effect Noa has on him, I loved it!! Noa is such a strong character, she could see Diel for what he truly was, and did everything she could to help him. When these two get together it is with such a passion, neither having had someone before without having the choice of being with them, it is so very raw, intense and emotional.
Lots and lots of action in this, gore, violence, brutality, abuse but also lots of steamy passionate scenes. A brilliant storyline that just winds you in and won’t let go. Stunning!!! I can’t wait to read more in this series.
