The Soldier by Renee Rose is now live!
I SHOULD GIVE HER UP—SET HER FREE.
The Russian army made me a killer, but the brotherhood made me what I am.
Ruthless. Deadly. Irredeemable.
Which is why Kayla should stay away.
The innocent young actress has a bright future ahead of her,
so long as someone doesn’t break her first. Someone like me.
Every weekend, she gives herself to me fully. Without question. Without hesitation.
She’s mine to command.
In return, I give her what she craves—pain and pleasure.
But it’s a fantasy that can’t ever become reality.
We’re playing with fire,
but I can’t seem to let her go…

My ARC Review:
The 4th book in the Chicago Bratva series, this is Pavel and Kayla’s story, this is a continuation of their initial meeting from the Blacklight: Roulette anthology, which doesn’t have to be read to enjoy this, but helps with the background.
After meeting at Blacklight, Pavel won Kayla for a month, but they have passed the month stage and are still meeting up. The only problem is they live in different states, so they meet up at weekends only. Both know it can’t last so are enjoying what they have while it lasts.
Kayla is looking to become and actress in LA, having met Pavel at Blacklight by accident, where he found her to be too delicate, but she has surprised him with her strength. Pavel left Russia and lives in Chicago working for Ravil, and when he met Kayla she was not what he was looking for, but showed him differently and has let his sadistic side come out to play.
Their relationship is pure Dom/Sub, she calls him Master and submits to whatever he wants, but Pavel is worried about how far he will take Kayla, he frightens himself with the amount of pain he likes to inflict and is worried he will take it too far.
But after spending the weekends together, they have grown closer. Kayla struggles to get through the week and make it to the weekend when she knows she will see Pavel. She is interested in getting to know him better, but he rarely lets her see any more than the Dom side of himself. Pavel is becoming obsessed with Kayla, who is bringing out more emotions in him than he knows what to do with, and tries very hard to interpret her needs especially after a scene.
As the story unfolds we find that Ravil is not necessarily happy with Pavel leaving every weekend, and tells Pavel to make his choice. Kayla is trying to become an actress and comes across a seedy director after more than her acting skills. Choices need to be made if their relationship is going to succeed.
I enjoyed this, I liked how their Dom/Sub relationship worked, how well they worked together, even though others around them perceived their relationship to be abnormal, it worked for them. You only learn about their relationship when they meet at the weekend, there is not much interaction in the week in-between them meeting up, which I think would have helped to understand their relationship a bit more. Still it was a good addition to this series.
