A powerless supernatural mafia princess. A bodyguard hellbent on revenge. And a love that might cost them both everything…

Elspeth Lennox knows dreams are foolish–including the dream to marry for love. Born without elemental power, she’s considered worthless except in the promise that she could produce a rare and superiorly gifted child free from the disease that is slowly killing her brother and so many other Natura.

In exchange for a cure, she agrees to marry and join her bloodline with that of the Natura’s most powerful Russian family–a king very few have ever seen in person.

The last thing the Lennox family needs is another powerful alliance. Fearing retaliation from other Natura families, Elspeth’s grandfather assigns her his most powerful bodyguard to make sure she survives to see her wedding day.

Fire elemental Aleron Foussé has long dreamed of revenge for his father’s murder. Protecting Elspeth will give him the cover he needs to finally achieve that goal. Elspeth’s just a pawn. A distraction he doesn’t need. A dangerous distraction who makes him dream of things he’ll never have. Things he never thought he wanted.

Now he wants it all. He wants her.

But Elspeth holds a secret powerful enough to start a war, and if they’re not careful, their hearts may be the first casualties.

My Review:

I really enjoyed this, once I had gotten into it, which did take a little bit of time as the world was explained and I got my head around what was going on, but after that I found it to be a thoroughly entertaining and gripping read, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Natura Elementals are gifted humans that contain magic and powers from one of the four elements, hoping to bring balance back to the world before the humans destroy it totally. Elspeth is the granddaughter of the leader of the North American faction of the Elementals, who appears to have been born without any powers of her own, a Passive, but who as such can give birth to very powerful Elementals. An arranged marriage is set up with the Russian Royalty side, who claim to have the know how of how to heal the illness affecting her brother, who is tri-powered and is basically losing control of his elements before he has a melt down and loses his sanity. Elspeth has agreed the marriage if they help her brother. Her Grandfather, Senair, assigns his most powerful assassin, Aleron, to keep her safe in the meantime.

Aleron has worked for Senair for a long time, keeping his head down and doing what he was told, all the while harboring his need to get revenge for the death of his father. Aleron has plans to use Elspeth to get his revenge, until an unprecedented attack by an Earth elemental has him having to give Elspeth literally the kiss of life to revive her. Their undeniable connection after this just grows, but each fight as they both have different agendas and come from different paths in life, knowing it would never work out between them. But Mother Nature has plans for them both, with a big surprise in store for Elspeth!

I loved the concept behind this, the different Elemental groups and how you can have more than just one power, the warring factions and the classes, it just worked really well together and I was riveted!! The connection between Aleron and Elspeth was wonderful, they fit each other so well and I was really rooting for them. Elspeth is a fierce and caring character, determined to help everyone, and has a massive learning curve going on. Aleron was so protective and caring of her, always there when he was needed. Brilliant, can’t wait to read more!
