A Ruin of Roses
Deliciously Dark Fairytales #1
A spicy new twist on an old classic – a deliciously dark Beauty and the Beast reimagining.
I could save him, but he would ruin me.
The creature that stalks the forbidden wood.
The dragon prince.
He has suffered a fate worse than death. We all have. A curse put upon us by the mad king.
We are a kingdom locked in time. Shifters unable to feel our animals. Stuck here by a deal between the late king and a demon who seeks our destruction.
The only one keeping this kingdom alive is Nyfain, the golden prince to a stolen throne. The last dragon shifter.
He’s our hope.
He’s my nightmare.
When he catches me trespassing in the forbidden wood, he doesn’t punish me with death, as he’s entitled.
He takes me, instead. Forces me back to the castle as his prisoner. Seeks to use me.
Apparently, I can save him. I can save the whole forgotten kingdom, locked away by the demon king’s power.
But it would mean taming the monster beneath his skin. It would mean giving myself to him.
It would mean my ruin.

This is a dark and sexy Beauty and the Beast retelling, featuring a strong heroine, a dangerous anti-hero, and a humorous supporting cast. It is a full-length novel at 80k words and suitable for 18+. This is the beginning of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger. Buckle up. The author was let off her leash.
My ARC Review:
A wonderfully dark, deliciously dirty and steamy, funny and suspenseful, fairy tale retelling!
I’m not a fan of fairy tales, but this is K.F. Breene, I just had to read this one to see just how much I could be converted! Boy what a ride we are taken on here, this is not your average fairy tale retelling, be warned!!
A demon curse has transformed the land the people once knew, the people and the land are suffering and dying, no one knows how to lift the curse. Finley is a clever and adaptable young woman who has read everything she can in the library to come up with ways to help the people. One of the main ingredients can only be found within the Royal grounds through the forbidden woods, which is a very dangerous place! But Finley is determined to keep trying to help, especially since her family have already lost some family members to the curse, and her father is now dying, so not going into the woods is not an option for her.
Nyfain is one of the dangers within the wood…. he patrols in his beast form and the villagers know to stay away, he will and has killed trespassers found within his domain. Little does Finley know that he has been watching her trespass within the woods, stealing from him, and he has her scent…..
A brilliant read, highly addictive, and thoroughly refreshing….. if all fairy tale retellings were like this then I would read more!! The world building was fantastic and engaging, with the side characters as usual in a K.F. read adding a further layer to this book. The goings on within the Royal castle will leave your jaw hanging on the floor…… I was laughing so hard at some of the shenanigans, K.F. has really let her freak fly with this one!
I loved the dynamic between Nyfain and Finley, the chemistry is sizzling, but there is so much more going on here than just that!
I can’t wait for book 2 to see just where this story line will go!!
This is an 18+ read only, it is a very dark, dirty and steamy read and is in no way meant for YA readers.
