This was not going to go well.

Even half hidden behind a mask, it was written all over Kelsey’s face, and they’d only just gotten here. She sat stiffly beside him, legs tightly crossed, clutching a drink in her hand. And the party hadn’t even really started yet.

Dillon patted her on the knee. “Relax, Kels.”

She side-eyed him. “People are next to naked out there doing…the nasty, and you’re telling me to relax?” she scoffed. “Is that what you do here?”

“Nah.” He winked. “Told ya, I like to watch.”

Her eyes bugged out and she gasped. “Strangers? I thought you meant me. That you like watching me.”

“Kelsey, it’s a sex club—what’d you expect?”

Chloe leaned over Jesse to correct him. “Sex positive.”

Kelsey tilted her head and wrinkled her nose at Chloe. “I know, but I thought this was supposed to be a Halloween party.”

“At a sex club,” he reiterated. “You won’t see anyone doing the ‘Monster Mash’ or bobbing for apples here.”

“Bobbing for dick, maybe,” Sloan murmured under his breath. “Heh.”

“Shut it, Sloan,” Dillon spoke through gritted teeth.

“Just makin’ a joke, man.” He killed off the whiskey in his glass and turned in his seat toward Kelsey. “Sorry.”

Dillon took Kelsey’s hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “Look, you’re here with us and you’re perfectly safe. Nobody’s going to touch you, okay?”

“So, drink your drink and relax.” Dillon let go of her hand and patted her knee again.

Jesse, seated on the other side of him, leaned into his ear. “Think of tonight as…an opportunity.”

“An opportunity?”

“You can thank Chloe. Since Brendan won’t allow the vamps to come play upstairs anymore…” Then he howled, “…ahoooo.”

Chloe tipped her head forward and grinned. “Say hello to the wolf pack.” She tugged on Jesse’s hair and giggled. “Give me a growl, baby.”

“Lions don’t growl, babe.” Kissing her neck, he tickled her. “We roar.”

“Wolf pack?” Kelsey was making that face again.

“Uh-huh.” Chloe giggled. “Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? Normally, I’d pick the vampire, but vampires are not supposed to sparkle, ya know?”

“Alcide Herveaux?” she prompted her. “Girl, didn’t you ever watch True Blood?”

Chloe tilted her head. “How is that even possible?” She pointed to the unlit stage, which had been transformed to look like a scene out of Into the Woods. Apparently the haunted forest thing was the theme for the ball this year. The motif had been carried out in every nook and cranny of the club.

“Ohhh, I get it now.” Kelsey slowly nodded. “Werewolves. Halloween.”

No, Kelsey, you do not get it.

“Yeah…uh, well, kind of.” Chloe nodded.

Jesse sniggered. “She’s gonna run for the hills, cousin.”
