Dianne Duvall returns to the world of the Immortal Guardians, where danger–and desire–make every decision count. . .

Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her “special abilities” aren’t much, but the plan is simple–she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it’s bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He’s a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it.

Étienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years–long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can’t stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she’s exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger too. He’ll have to accept Krysta’s help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher. . .

My Book Review:

Absolutely loving this Immortal Guardians series, it’s quickly becoming one of my favourites! There is a great cast of characters, fantastic fight scenes, hot sexy Immortals looking for their ‘one’ whilst protecting the human race from vampires, great witty banter in an extended family type setting…. this makes some fabulous reading!

Krysta and her brother Sean have been hunting vampires on their own for the past 6 years. Both have a set of special gifts – Sean can heal with his hands and Krysta can see peoples’ auras. So Krysta goes out fighting vampires, playing the dumb drunk woman walking the streets and attracting the vampire’s attention, then turning it round on them and attacking them instead. She has excellent honed fighting skills being able to see their auras and can predict their moves before they are actually made. Sean is there to heal all cuts afterwards, but lately there have been more vampires than usual, and its taking its toll on them.

Etienne bumps into Krysta whilst out hunting, mistaking her for a Second – she thinks he’s a vampire but with a strange aura and makes her escape. Etienne can’t get Krysta out of his mind and is quite smitten with her. But the mercenaries are still after the Immortals as well as the vampires, hoping to capture one and create a new weapon from them.

Lots going on in this one with the mercs and the vamps. We still get lots of input from couples we have previously read about and their story continues as well in this, which was a great added layer to the story for me. As we gain more characters David’s house gets fuller and the dinner table needs extending to include all the new people. The banter, wit and snide comments that are had at this table read does make me laugh! This is where you get to experience the family side of the Immortals and how well they all get along with each other.

I loved that Etienne with his telepathic powers couldn’t read Krysta very well, only getting snippets and the banter that occurs between them. Krysta is a strong character, a great fighter, quick witted and intelligent – a perfect match for Etienne, who is quite olde worlde in his mannerisms as times. They are very open with each other which makes for a cute as well as a steamy and witty relationship. This is a must read series for any PNR fans.
