A USA Today Bestseller

Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians protect humanity from unspeakable horrors–but their hearts are as fragile as any mortal’s. . .

For centuries, Lisette d’Alençon has been a warrior against the dark. She fights alongside her brothers and comrades. But when the dreams start coming, she can’t bear to confess them to the Immortal Guardians’ command. Dreams of a dark-haired man with soft eyes and brutal wounds, a man her heart aches for–and a man she knows has been declared a traitor.

Zach is an exile, a loner. He won’t defend himself against false accusations or grovel to those who should have faith in him. But he’ll damn sure defend the woman who kept him sane against a plague of super-vamps that seems to have appeared from nowhere. The Guardians will blame him, and that will make Lisette suspect, too. With life, death and eternity on the line, who can they really trust?

“The Immortal Guardians series is one you’ll want to follow.” —The Romance Review

“Whizzing along at light speed. . .this sophomore effort sizzles.” —Publishers Weekly on Night Reigns

My Book Review:

Oh my goodness, this is my favourite of the series so far – I absolutely love Zach!

Lisette is the sister to Etienne, one of the few female Immortals helping Seth keep the world free of vampires. She’s a fabulous fighter, strong and fearsome….. she feels guilty for her 2 brothers as she is the reason they ended up turning immortal, even now so many years later.

Zach is an elder, a bare chested winged hottie, like a cousin to Seth, he is one of the Others, an outsider, an enigma, who has sat on the sidelines for centuries, but has slowly been coming around and helping Seth out in his own little ways. The reason why…. Lisette. After their encounter in a previous book, he is drawn to her like a moth to a flame, pulling gargoyle duty on the top of David’s house to keep an eye on her.

Seth wrongly accuses Zach of betraying him and as a punishment the rest of the Others torture a captive Zach for months on end. His only reprieve is when he can be with Lisette in her dreams, as they are both telepathic. So they spend time together in their dreams learning about each other, but Lisette keeps this to herself knowing how much Zach is on Seth’s bad list.

That is until Zach suddenly appears in her back garden, battered and bleeding. Lisette takes him in and cares for him – from that moment on they are an unbreakable pair, unable to deny the chemistry and attraction between them, whilst trying to keep it a secret.

I love these two together – Zach is very much a fierce warrior, riddled with power being so old, but he’s also a tortured soul, a loner, never having had anyone else in his life before Lisette, he is a virgin – vulnerable and innocent in his ways, yet ever so dangerous and protective of Lisette. These two can’t get enough of each other and there are plenty of hot and steamy scenes, their first together in the shower is hawt!!! Together they are passionate, tender, fierce and touching…. which makes for a very swoon-worthy read. They are open and honest with each other, there is no game playing, their relationship is angst free, which is a refreshing change to most books.

There’s lots going on in the terms of story line – a stronger updated version of the vampire has been produced along with new weapons able to take down an Immortal. With no clue as to who is behind this there’s lots going on behind the scenes to find out who and why. We find out more about Marcus and Ami and their relationship in this one, spending more time with the other Immortals and their Seconds as they are out fighting the vampires.

We see a lot of Seth and find out more about the Others a little in here as well, learning Zach is very much like Seth but still with lots of mystery about just what they are. Seth is another great character and I can’t wait to find out more about him, his love for his Immortals and his strength in terms of wisdom and power were brilliantly done in this one. Not to be missed!!!
