Author Book Signing Event ~ #RARE22 in Edinburgh / 5 Night Break / Places Visited

#RARE 2022 – Edinburgh

So, this was Author Signing Event number 2 for me this year – #RARE22 and we were back in the International Conference Centre in Edinburgh – the very first Author Signing Event I attended was held by #RARE here at the International Conference Centre back in 2016 – I try to get to as many different Author Signing Events as I can now!

The difference with this event than to others that I have been to was that it was held over 2 days rather than just the one – there was a Thursday night Meet & Greet event, following by authors signing on the Friday night and then again on the Saturday through the day – I must say I knew about it after a 2 day event!  There was then an After Party on the Saturday night where we all let our hair down!

My daughter Liane, as always, was with me for this event – we decided to make a mini holiday out of it and ended up staying in Edinburgh for 5 nights – we had a ball!!

I will post about the Author Signing Event first, and then will follow it up with some photos and reviews of places we visited in Edinburgh during our stay – we had a fabulous time!

Meet & Greet Event – Thursday 26 May 2022

This was one of the first major Author Event Signings after COVID restrictions had been relaxed.  This Meet & Greet was held at Brewhemia and was a chance to meet up with friends and authors, old and new, in a relaxed atmosphere prior to the actual signing.  I have posted several general shots of the night  – have a good look, you may see yourself if you were there or some authors or models you may well know!  I will put the video clips I took on my Facebook page if you fancy a look at the videos.

Author Signing – Friday 27 May & Saturday 28 May 2022

Here are all the wonderful people I got to meet at this signing :

The After Event Party – Saturday night

We went to the After Event Party and had an absolute ball!  It was really good, everyone let their hair down and had a good time.  I went round and took group photos of all the individual tables dotted around on the night – are you in these?  Videos of people dancing and generally having a good time will be posted over on my Facebook page if you want to have a look and maybe a laugh!

Our 5 night stay in Edinburgh

Here’s where we stayed, the places we visited and the things we did whilst in Edinburgh – I have linked my Google review to some of these, fancy following me on Google??

The Haymarket Hotel

Only a 5 min walk from Haymarket train station with plenty of trams / buses to take you to the center of Edinburgh, although we walked which took 20-30 mins. Lovely big spacious room with large bathroom and shower. Unfortunately this was in the basement so no view, also no double glazing so it could be noisy from outside plus noisy above us which was the breakfast area. No lifts here. Breakfast was lovely, hot and fresh, with vegetarian and gluten free options. Lovely helpful friendly staff, would stay again but maybe in a different room. There is a small bar in the eating area for drinks.

Rancho Steak House

Wow, was this a good pick!! The fillet steak was absolutely delicious, one of the best I’ve ever had!! Was cooked medium to perfection, juicy, tasty, no fat or gristle, just spot on!! Sorry but that’s why the photo is showing my fillet had already been started it was that good! The inside is tiny, so would advise pre-booking. The outside is tiny, you could easily walk past and miss it unless you were looking, but believe me you would be missing out on the best steak if you walked past this place!

Foundry 39

This was a last minute late night stop for us, trying to find somewhere to eat in at around 21:30-21:45 – most places we found finished serving at 21:00 so our options were limited. Foundry 39 serve food until 22:00. The food we had was nice and tasty but the choices were a little limited for someone who needs gluten free. The cocktails we had were nice. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Stopped in here for a quick drink, didn’t have food. So many whiskey’s to choose from!!! Nice atmosphere and good bar staff.

The City Cafe

A quick late night stop in here, nice American Diner, we had the best Nachos in here! Nice drinks menu too. Can get busy. There is also a pool table in here if it takes your fancy!

McGonagalls Gin and Whiskey Emporium

Just stopped in here for a quick drink, didn’t have any food. Good extensive drinks menu, although a lot of the cocktails contained cream/milk. We did enjoy what we had though! Nice decor inside.

St. Bernard’s Well

Lovely walk along the Water of Leith pathway, quiet and peaceful, great for the dogs and ok for prams or a jog. The well could do with a little TLC, which seems a shame.

Water of Leith Weir

Near Dean Village along the Water of Leith pathway.

Water of Leith Walkway

We had a beautiful walk by the water! Great scenery, quiet, peaceful, relaxing. Good for the dogs, level enough for prams.

Dean Village

Well worth the visit, stunning little place, loved the architecture and the views. Very peaceful and relaxing, you would never know you were in the middle of a big city. We walked down by the river which was just lovely.

New Town Fox

This was a lovely little place for food, with gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available. Food was fresh, hot and delicious and the staff were very friendly. Our lunch was delicious, well worth a visit.

Princess Street Gardens

A lovely place to walk through or just sit and relax for a bit with a good book!! Very pleasant with the trees and plants in flower, their scent was traveling on the breeze. You wouldn’t think you were in the middle of a big city!

Ross Fountain

Set within the Princess Street Gardens, this is a great photo opportunity to get the beautiful fountain with Edinburgh Castle in the background! It’s a lovely fountain, well worth a look!

The Piper’s Rest

This is a great little Scottish bar/pub serving traditional Scottish food. It gets very busy in here and advise you pre-book, they were turning lots of people away who hadn’t booked! Food and drink were great and the prices were good. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is also live music here every night. Definitely worth a visit.

So if you want a different pub experience this is it!! Decorated in all things Frankenstein and horror, set over 3 levels, each different and unique. It makes for a great atmosphere to have a drink in. A good drinks menu, but they were short of a couple of items and couldn’t make the cocktails we asked for. It’s worth being around for 11pm when the bell tolls and Frankenstein is brought alive and descends from above the bar in his basket! Definitely worth a visit for something different!
