My ARC Review:
I didn’t really expect another book with Richard Van Ryan in as the main character, so this was a wonderful surprise by Melanie, and one I’m so glad she did – it’s a wonderful, if emotionally fraught twist to the fabulous found family that the Van Ryan’s are a part of….. not to be missed this one!
Richard is finally retiring, well sort of, he’s still available of course if they need him….. but he is so much looking forward to being with his wonderful wife Katy, who he loves with everything he has, the woman he owes everything to, the woman who taught him how to love.
Family are everything to Richard and Katy, he does everything he can for them all and is a far cry from the cold and unemotional man he used to be, and so when they go and visit the ‘found’ family at the hub where all the BAM family meet up, they throw him a surprise retirement party, with an incident happening that he never saw coming, a past he thought he had outrun eventually catching up with him…..
Luc is the best friend of Reed, Heather’s now husband, one of Richard’s daughters. Luc didn’t have a brilliant start to life and has been adopted into the found family for as long as he has been friends with Reed. Luc has a new girlfriend, Ashley, who he met 6 months ago at an event where she was the planner, they have been inseparable since. Ashley grew up as the only child of a single mum, who used to be a model prior to having Katy. Ashley has never known her father, with her mum always telling her that he was cold and heartless and that he never wanted a family. She lost her mum 6 years ago to cancer and has been on her own, until she met Luc.
A fabulous and emotional read of family and love – I loved reading all about Richard and his family and how all the BAM family as usual come together when there is an upheaval, but are always there for each other no matter what.
