MEA CULPA: A Haunted New Orleans novel by Rayvn Salvador is live!
It’s easier to forgive someone at fault than to forget.
Larken Maynard knows fear. Though not the kind she’s experienced while working as a paranormal investigator on the hit show, Haunted New Orleans. Her terror stems from the sadistic, manipulative group who held her hostage for most of her life. Those who condemned her for her natural-born gifts. The people she barely escaped with her life. And now, they’re back. Looking to return her to the fold and control her once again. But Lark won’t go down without a fight. And the man who used to be her friend and confidant is in for a rude awakening if he thinks she will.
Kholt Leroy has never really known anything but Balance of Light. They are his family, his friends. The ranch was his childhood home. He always wondered why his best friend disappeared, and he’s missed her greatly…for far too long. So, when he runs into her again, he’s thrilled. Unfortunately, he’s unprepared for what he finds. She’s not the person he remembers, and the stories she tells flips his entire world on its axis. Now, he must decide between the woman he has always cared about and the only family he’s ever known.

My ARC Review:
A good end to this trilogy – the team are back investigating another house in New Orleans, and whilst there is some paranormal and supernatural activity in this one, the story revolves mainly around Larken as we get her backstory, and she gets a second chance to love.
We find out that Larken grew up in a cult, the Balance of Light, taken there by her mother to start over with their life. Life was good to start with, until the leader takes her mother was one of his wives, and is intent on harvesting Larken’s power for his own use. She barely escaped with her life and has been hidden away for many years, keeping a low profile, changing her name and her looks, but her past is about to catch up with her in a big way.
Kholt and his construction business has been hired by the show to make sure the old house they are going to investigate is structurally safe. He can’t believe his eyes when he meets Larken, the girl who disappeared from the ranch he grew up on, from his family and all their friends, the girl he was best friends with, whom he loved!
Kholt’s world is turned on its head as he reconnects with Larken and he learns the truth of what happened to her – the Balance of Light to Kholt has always been his home, his family, his safe place – what he learns from Larken throws his whole life in doubt. But what he can’t escape are his feelings for Larken, still there and as strong as ever after all these years.
A good read this one, lots going on, danger and suspense from the cult and it’s psychotic leader, a new house to investigate with spirits reaching out to warn Larken that she is in danger, all of which ties up with the Balance of Light.
Kholt and Larken are brilliant together, reconnecting and finding love a second time, but with lots of danger and supernatural thrills on the horizon.
It seems a new trilogy is in the offing tying in with a trip to the nearby island and it’s powerhouse of supernatural activity – looking forward to reading that when it comes out!
