Hooking up with the college freshman I was supposed to keep an eye on was easier than tracking her.
Kidnapping her after that first night was easier than following her around campus.
I’m massive, scarred, and tattooed. I don’t exactly fit in with her crowd.
After the job was done, cutting her loose was the hard part.
Making it through the day without seeing her became impossible.
Some may call it stalking, but I call it vigilance.
She seems invested in this game of cat and mouse we’re playing, but she’s mistaken.
I’m not a toy she can discard when she’s bored.
Trying to get her out of my system may leave us both in pieces.

My ARC Review:
The fifth installment of this Mission Mercenaries series, each can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the previous book, Depravity Delivered, (if not the previous two, Bridges Burned) at least for this one, as the stories involve the same characters, there is some cross over and some events run parallel.
This book is about Alani, the sister of Ayla (who was kidnapped, trafficked and abused in Depravity Delivered. Alani is at college when Ayla is taken, is sent some dodgy videos and thinks Ayla was making these for money, not being forced. Alani is possibly next to be taken by the cartel and is assigned a minder to watch over her.
Alani has no self-preservation, she is just spiraling towards the darkness, something that calls to her, she puts herself into more and more danger, uncaring of the danger she is in, just looking for a thrill, something that makes her feel alive.
Donovan is the one sent to watch over her. He is darkness personified, having witnessed his girl and unborn child killed because of him, he has vowed never to get involved with another person. He is a brutal stone cold killer, no feelings are ever involved. But the darkness within Alani and Donovan call to each other, something about their connection is undeniable, but is completely unconventional and out of control.
The relationship (if you can call it that) between these characters is nothing short of aggressive and destructive. Donovan knows he should stay away from her, and he does try, several times, but each time Alani spiral further into the danger and the darkness, a walking siren to the dangerous men she deliberately sets out to find, beyond caring of what would happen if they get to her.
Both characters are broken and the relationship they have is questionable. There are triggers galore in this one – it is dark, gritty, raw and twisted, full of dubious situations / dubious content, and is not for the sensitive reader. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.
