Ava Callaghan
A woman working in a male-dominated field.
Organized, strong, and tenacious.
That’s how she has to be to succeed.
Hunter Owens
A loner.
He needs no one, has no ties, and his future is an unanswered question mark.
It’s all he knows.

Until the day their lives intersect.
He sees the woman she hides from the world.
She nurtures the part of him he lost long ago.
But they both agree—their connection is temporary.
They are only for now.
Can their stubborn natures allow them to bend and accept that maybe, just maybe, there is more to life than they believed?
That love can heal.
That happiness can exist.
That for now can be forever.

As we got to the top of the bluff, the dog raced ahead of me, wagging his tail. I stood for a moment to catch my breath, and he stopped, as if waiting. I cocked my head to the side, studying the large black truck in front of me. It was familiar. My stomach clenched as I moved toward it, recalling why it was familiar.

Intense fire-and-ice eyes came to my mind. Strong arms and a wicked, passionate mouth that was possessive and gentle poked at my memories.

I rounded the back of the truck and stopped, the dog sitting down beside me.

There he was.

Hunter.

He didn’t see me at first. I didn’t interrupt him.

He was too busy dancing. I was too busy staring.

His jeans hugged his ass. His T-shirt was stretched tight across his back and arms. His hair glinted in the sunlight.

And his hips moved. Gyrated. His torso bent and swayed. His arms rose and fell with the beat of the music. He sang, his voice rich and deep, his feet and body keeping perfect rhythm with the song. He spun on his heels and froze. Our eyes locked and held.

And, unexpectedly, he smiled. Wide and carefree. He held out his hand.

“Dance with me, Little Dragon.”

I found myself taking his hand. Joining him under the sun. Letting him lead me, spin me around, pull me to his hot, sunbaked chest as we moved. He crooned in my ear, making me laugh. He joined me, the sound of our shared amusement fading away as the song ended and we broke apart. Slowly, carefully, as if neither of us wanted this moment to end.

Wow, this is a corker of a read from Melanie, I think it’s my favourite of the BAM/ABC series so far!! It’s the intensity of the story telling and the emotions it produces that did it for me…. hooked from page one this one was brilliant from start to finish and had me laughing and crying at various points.

Ava is the big sister in the Callaghan 3rd gen clan….. strong, organised, efficient, knows her stuff and takes no bull in her male dominated work environment, ABC Corp, dealing with foremen and construction workers and males who don’t like taking orders from women!

Hunter has inherited his Grandfather’s house on the bluff, and plans and doing it up and renting it out before moving on. He has a tragic past, brought up by a mother who treated him like a burden and never showed him any love, they were always on the move and never settled. He’s inherited her ways, with only his truck and his dog as his constant in life, never settling, always moving, never loving.

They meet accidentally, when Ava is putting an arrogant man in his place, which is incredibly attractive to Hunter. Ava is instantly attracted to him and his pale blue eyes and muscular build, but he is stubborn, like his Grandpa. They carry on meeting each other, both unable to get the other from out of their minds, with the passion and intensity growing daily, but both in agreement that it is only temporary, until Hunter gets the itch to be on the move again.

A stunning read that really pulls at those heartstrings at times!! The intensity and the raw passion between these two will steam your kindle up!!! The story line was very engrossing for me, highly descriptive, I could picture Hunter stalking around his house and pulling his hands through his hair as he battled his strange feelings for Ava!!

I loved Hunter, he is gruff, grumpy and stubborn, but also very vulnerable in his brokenness. His ability to see the other side of Ava, the one that needed gentleness was wonderful, the way he would treat her and things he did for her, yet all the while saying he was incapable of caring. Ava’s character struck a chord with me as a worker in a similar male dominated environment and the need to get away from that and come down. But I loved her strength and her ability not to push Hunter too much, being there when she was needed.

It was definitely one of those books I couldn’t put down and couldn’t read fast enough, but didn’t want to end. I loved the epilogues at the end, which were the icing on the cake for me and this wonderful book, one of my favourite reads this year. 5 not to be missed Little Dragon stars.
