Wow, be prepared to be dropped into a hole you can’t get out of with this one!!!
Just think of every trigger and you’ve probably got it in this one with Ily and Henri. Saying that it was an unputdownable read – raw, powerful, abrasive, full of hurt and horror, I felt for all the jewels, I felt for Henri, but my goodness me when he relinquished his hold on his inner monster he felt alive and free – from his guilt and nausea he has had to live with on a daily basis.
Henri is learning to love and appreciate his freedom as a sadist, but he only wants Ily. He is prepared to give up everything, to pay all he has, to live on that awful island in order to be at peace with himself. Ily is still clinging on to hope that she can get through to the goodness left inside Henri and that they can eventually free themselves, but the torture she has to endure along with all the other jewels makes this seem impossible.
Ily has realised that no matter how much she wants to hate what Henri does, her body loves it. But that doesn’t stop her fighting back on every front she can, which could result in dire consequences for her if she’s not careful.
It is very much a dark and triggering read full of abuse you would expect involving human trafficking, so be warned.
But, I am very much looking forward to the next book to see how Henri and Ily survive.
